As you may have guessed by my last name, I'm Irish! From son to father I can trace my family back for over 700 years. My name, Middleton O'Malley, has been in the family for well over 300 years, and I was the Clan Chieftain in the Millennium year of 2000. (What a great party that was!) County Mayo will never be the same!
Ireland is a lovely country but one that has gone through some very interesting and occasionally challenging changes during the past twenty years. With some exceptions, gone are the days of absolute innocence and quaintness, and the country, once almost exclusively Irish, is now populated by a significant number of central Europeans who came in search of a better life.
But Ireland retains a certain charm; one that is almost magnetic. It is the Irish people and their devastating charm and great humor that keeps me returning year after year to the land of my family, my past, and perhaps, the future. |
